Respondr

Respondr is radio dispatch software for DMR, TETRA and analog networks.

Respondr is radio dispatch software for control rooms. Radio gateways bring your analog, DMR and TETRA networks onto IP, and the operator listens, transmits and coordinates every channel from a browser, a Windows PC or a dedicated console.

The Respondr dispatch software shows the eight channels of the Desk 1 tab in grid view, among them VHF Marine 12, TETRA Ops 1 and DMR Talkgroup 201, and, on the right, the Harbour Ops channel chat, with text messages, a drone photo, a voice message with its transcript and a position on the map.
01 — What it is

One application for every radio network.

Radio dispatch software replaces the row of desk radios in a control room, one per network, with a single application. In Respondr the chain has three parts: radio gateways connect each network to IP, the Respondr server routes audio and signalling between gateways and users, and the operators work from their clients. The radios in the field keep working as they do today.

02 — Networks

DMR, TETRA and analog on the same screen.

Each channel of each network appears as a channel in the dispatcher, with live transmit and receive state and the identity of whoever is speaking. Analog VHF and UHF, including marine and aeronautical VHF, connect through a 4-wire E&M interface. Digital networks connect through gateways that carry the radio ID or ISSI of the transmitting unit.

DMR Tier I, II, III and TETRA: FunkTronic FT638
Analog and DMR Tier II/III: Radio Data BS2500 base stations
RoIP: JPS RSP-Z2, ACU-Z1 and STR-Z3
Analog, DMR Tier II and NEXEDGE: Kenwood NXR base stations
Analog and DMR Tier II/III: Radio Activity Kairos; analog and DMR Tier II: RA
The console is in strip view on the Desk 1 tab: eight channels side by side, among them the VHF Marine 12, TETRA Ops 1 and DMR Talkgroup 201 radio channels, show their online users, volume fader, patch and function-key PTT. The Harbour Ops intercom channel and the VHF Marine 12 marine channel are linked and the dispatcher is transmitting on both, while Anton Berg is talking on Ramp Control.
03 — Recording and maps

Every transmission recorded and searchable.

The software records the audio of the channels and keeps each transmission with its channel, time, sender and recipient. The history can be filtered by gateway, channel and contact, and optional transcription turns each recording into text you can search. In the browser client, a live map shows the positions reported by app users, with a radio coverage heatmap built from real signal samples.

04 — Roles and access

Each operator sees only their channels.

Respondr has two roles. Administrators configure gateways, channels, users and settings. Operators dispatch on the channels assigned to them and see nothing else. Access policies refine what each user and device can reach, and sign-in supports multi-factor authentication, single sign-on through OIDC and an account lockout after repeated failed attempts.

Admin and Operator roles
Per-resource access policies for users and devices
MFA with TOTP and OIDC single sign-on
Lockout after 5 failed attempts, activity log
The Respondr users screen lists 14 accounts and shows, for each one, the name, permissions, audio priority, radio room, DMR ID, patch permission and number of assigned channels.

What the operator does from the dispatch screen

These are the everyday functions of the Respondr dispatcher, the same on every client that runs it.

Channel mixer

Every channel has its own volume and mute. Three layouts, vertical, horizontal and grid, fit the screen and the number of channels on duty.

Patching between networks

Two channels can be patched together for the length of an incident, even on different networks, then separated again.

Group transmit

One press of push-to-talk transmits on several channels at once, for announcements that must reach every team.

Keyboard shortcuts

Push-to-talk and channel selection work from the keyboard, with indexed shortcuts from 1 to 9. In the Windows client, combinations with a modifier key keep working across the whole desktop.

Emergency alerts

SOS and man-down alarms from app users reach the same screen that carries the radio channels, with the position attached.

Messages and private calls

Text messages travel alongside voice on the channels, and app users can be reached with a private one-to-one call.

Where the dispatch software runs

The same dispatcher runs on four kinds of client, and the server can sit in the cloud or in your own building.

Browser

Any operator position with a modern browser runs every dispatcher function, live map included. Nothing needs to be installed.

Windows desktop client

The desktop client adds global keyboard shortcuts: combinations with a modifier key work even when another application has the focus.

Respondr consoles

The Max, Pro and Mini consoles run a standalone edition that needs no separate server and keeps working offline with local FunkTronic gateways.

Mobile app

Supervisors in the field use the same channels from iPhone, Android or a PoC radio, with push-to-talk and GPS.

Cloud in the EU

The server can run on AWS, so the control room needs only the gateways and its client positions on site.

On premise or hybrid

The server can also run on your own hardware, with PostgreSQL and TLS 1.3, or split between your site and the cloud.

Frequently asked questions

It is the application a control room uses to listen, transmit and coordinate on radio channels from a computer instead of a desk radio. Respondr connects to the radio networks through gateways and shows every channel on one screen.

We’ll show you Respondr in a live demo.
