Respondr

A man-down app that alerts your dispatcher.

A worker on their own cannot always call for help. Respondr watches for a fall or a long stillness through the phone’s motion sensors, and if nobody cancels the pre-alarm, the dispatcher receives an SOS with the worker’s position.

A worker in a yellow jacket and hard hat stands alone in the yard of a steel plant, looking up at the filter stacks and conveyor of the building.
01 — Detection

The phone notices the fall.

While the worker is on duty, the app reads the phone’s motion sensors and looks for three situations: a fall, a long period without movement, and a phone left tilted. A periodic check-in can also ask the worker to confirm that everything is fine.

Fall, no-motion and tilt detection
Periodic check-in with a grace period
On-duty switch set by the worker on the phone
On Android, detection keeps running with the screen off
The Man Down screen of the app on Android shows the service on duty and the policy set by the organization: fall, no-motion and tilt detection are on, with the impact, free-fall, immobility and tilt thresholds.
02 — Pre-alarm and SOS

A false alarm is cancelled in seconds.

When a detector fires, the phone starts a pre-alarm countdown. If the worker is fine, one tap cancels it and monitoring starts again. If nobody answers, the countdown ends and the app raises the SOS on its own. The worker can also raise it directly, from the app or from the emergency key of a rugged phone.

Cancellable pre-alarm countdown
Automatic SOS when the countdown ends
SOS button in the app
Dedicated emergency key on devices that have one
The man-down pre-alarm turns an Android phone screen red: it reports a detected fall, the countdown shows 27 seconds before the SOS is sent, and the I’M OK - CANCEL button stops it.
03 — The dispatcher

The alarm reaches the control room.

The SOS arrives on the dispatcher’s console with the name of the worker and the position recorded when the alarm started. The dispatcher acknowledges it, coordinates the response on the usual channels and closes the event when it is resolved. Each alarm stays in the history with the recordings of the same period.

Alert with worker name and position
Acknowledgement and closing from the console
Radio users and app users on the same channels
Every alarm kept in the history
The console shows Emma Kovac’s man-down alarm pinned above the channels of the Emergency tab. On the right the map marks her position, with a card giving her coordinates and the time of the last update.

How lone-worker protection works

The functions below ship in the Respondr mobile app and dispatch console. The administrator sets them once for the whole organization.

Three detectors

Fall, prolonged stillness and tilt are detected from the phone’s motion sensors, without extra hardware to wear.

Check-in reminder

At a fixed interval the app asks the worker to confirm they are fine. A missed check-in starts the pre-alarm.

Organisation policy

The administrator sets detection thresholds, active detectors and check-in interval from the dashboard, the same for every phone.

Position with the alarm

The SOS carries the position of the phone at the moment the alarm started, so the dispatcher knows where to send help.

Voice on the same channels

The dispatcher talks to the worker and to the rescue team on the push-to-talk channels they already use, radio users included.

Alarm history

Man-down and SOS events are archived with the recordings, and the history can be filtered to show emergencies only.

Frequently asked questions

No. Detection uses the motion sensors of the phone that already runs Respondr. Rugged phones with a dedicated emergency key can also raise the SOS from that key.
