Push-to-talk, answered plainly

The questions people actually ask before they choose a dispatch platform. No marketing answers — where the honest answer is "no" or "it depends on your network", that is what it says.

Push-to-talk basics

Push-to-talk is one-way-at-a-time group voice: you hold a button, you speak, everyone on the channel hears you live, then you release and someone else can talk. It is how professional radio has always worked, and the reason it survives is that it is instant and it reaches a whole team at once — no ringing, no answering, no meeting to join.

Radio networks and gateways

A radio gateway is a box that connects an existing radio network to an IP network, translating audio and signalling in both directions. RoIP — Radio over IP — is the general name for carrying radio traffic that way. It is what lets someone on a smartphone talk to someone on a handheld radio, on the same channel, with neither of them needing to know.

Devices and accessories

Yes. With Respondr installed, an ordinary iPhone or Android phone becomes a channel radio — on screen, or with a Bluetooth button or a wired speaker-microphone if you need a real key to press.

Deployment, security and data

Yes. The complete platform — core, database and recording — installs on your hardware inside your network, with the same features as the hosted version. Cloud and hybrid deployments are the other two options.

Getting started

It depends on the number of users, which radio networks you bridge and where it runs, so there is no list price on this page. Tell us the shape of your operation in a demo and you get a real number, not a range.

Question not here?

Ask it directly. A demo with us is a working session with engineers who have installed this on ports, motorways and airports — not a slide deck.
